The Capital Area Bar Association and the Jackson Young Lawyers Association held their “Evening Honoring the Judiciary” on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at the Country Club of Jackson. CABA members, honorees, and guests enjoyed a reception at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m. This annual event recognizes our judiciary and the critical role of this co-equal branch of government in ensuring and preserving the rule of law established under our Federal and State constitutions.

The Women's Initiative of CABA presented "Balancing the Scales: Leading Women Lawyers on Meeting the Challenges of the Legal Profession." The well attended event featured Margaret Cupples, Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP, La'Verne Edney, Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, Charlene Priester, The Priester Law Firm, and Aileen Thomas, Jones Walker LLP. The panel was moderated by Stephanie Rippee, Watkins & Eager. This CLE program featured some of the most successful and experienced female lawyers in Jackson who engaged in an honest, open discussion about mentoring, work/life balance, and the changing culture of the legal profession. CABA joined Catholic Charities Migrant Support Center, the Young Lawyers Division of The Mississippi Bar and the Mississippi Association for Justice in holding an Immigration Legal Advice Clinic at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Madison on Saturday, February 3.
We are grateful for the attorneys and law students who volunteered at the clinic. They are pictured below. We are especially grateful to Amelia McGowan, Immigration Attorney and Project Director of the Migrant Support Center, for leading the public awareness workshop that preceded the clinic and working closely with the attorneys and students to assure they were providing correct and helpful advice to the clinic's clients.
