CABA Food from the Bar

The Capital Area Bar Association (CABA), in partnership with the Mississippi Food Network, is pleased to announce the First Annual "CABA Food From The Bar" food drive and fundraiser to benefit Mississippi's seniors, families, and children.

The drive will run from May 1 to May 29, 2015. Our goal is to join the fight against hunger that many Mississippians confront every day.

The Need – Over 690,000 Mississippians Don't Have Enough to Eat

The food collected and funds raised during the CABA Food From The Bar drive will be donated to the Mississippi Food Network, our state's leading food bank, for distribution to hungry Mississippians.  Almost 1 in 4 Mississippians, about 690,000 people, don't have enough to eat, more than 1 in 4 children go to bed hungry every night, and over 50% of our senior citizens experience regular shortfalls in food.  The Mississippi Food Network fights this poverty-related hunger through its targeted food-delivery programs.

What You Can Do – Support the "CABA Food From the Bar" Food Drive (May 1 to May 29)

You can support the CABA Food From The Bar food drive in the following ways:

A) Serve as a collection point for food donations from your attorneys, employees, and other participating CABA members.  (The Mississippi Food Network will collect all donated goods; all you have to do is host an MFN Logo collection box in your office.)

B) Donate non-perishable food, including these most-needed items:

  • Canned meats, including tuna, stews, chili, Spam, salmon, chicken and dumplings, Vienna sausage, and chicken;
  • Peanut butter
  • Canned soups
  • Canned fruits and vegetables.

C) Donate funds to the Mississippi Food Network online at www.msfoodnet.org or by check made payable to the Mississippi Food Network.  (Every $1 donated provides seven meals to hungry Mississippians!)

D) Promote the CABA Food From the Bar food drive among your colleagues.

How Your Efforts Will Be Recognized – CABA Awards to Top Contributors

The Mississippi Food Network will track all donations made through the CABA Food From The Bar food drive, and CABA will recognize the top contributors at a luncheon meeting after the food drive is completed.  (If you make a financial contribution, either online or by check, please notify one of the program coordinators listed below so that your contribution can be recorded.)
